Multi-disciplinary Autism Assessment

Autism is a neuro-developmental condition characterised by differences in social communication, interaction, flexibility of thought and sensory needs. Autism can be diagnosed in childhood or adulthood and affects both males and females.

Autism assessments are conducted by a multi-disciplinary team (two or more professionals from different backgrounds). In this case, assessments are completed by myself and my colleague, Dr Jude Hutchinson, who is an Educational Psychologist and experienced Autism diagnostician.  For younger children a medical pro-forma is also completed by a Paediatrician, following a short medical examination.

Assessment involves gathering detailed background information from early childhood, from multiple sources, and across settings. The practical element of the assessment is completed using the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule). Following consideration of all the information gathered during a detailed clinical discussion, feedback will be given regarding assessment outcomes. Onward referrals to relevant services can be made as appropriate. A full report, including recommendations, will be provided.

The cost of an Autism assessment is £850 (or £800 if the medical pro-forma is not required).

If you have any queries regarding the process or would like to book an appointment please contact me.

Covid-19 update: The ADOS-2 assessment is not valid for use with PPE or social distancing measures.  Therefore in some cases an alternative assessment called the BOSA (Brief Observations of Symptoms of Autism) will be offered.  If you would like to discuss this further please contact me.
